Periyakulam Kanmai is the main water reservoir of Sivakasi. Located in the Sivakasi - Srivilliputtur Road, it is spread to an area of 42 acres. The ground water level in 2020 has down to 600 feet.

By that time, we had started clearing the water input canals and de-silting the pond.

2000 Trees in Periyakulam tank in Sivakasi - 5th September 2020. Justice G. R. Swaminathan of Madras high court - Madurai Bench, Sub collector of Sivakasi Mr.Dinesh Kumar IAS along with the office bearers of Exnora Innovators Club graced the occasion. This forest is created artificially on 7500 sqft bund in the middle of our Periyakulam tank which has been dry for more than a decade. Green forum has taken up the initiative of clearing the waterways that lead up to the tank. Several km of canals were cleared.

During last spring (2022), under the guidance and permission of then Virudhunagar District Collector Mr. Meghanatha Reddy, I.A.S., we have started desilting work, bund formation and strengthening work in Sengulam Kanmai, which is widespread in area of almost 72 acres. We are approaching this project stage by stage, year by year. In the previous year, we have done the bund formation work, primary de-silting work and primary miyawaki formation work. We hope to add a new look to Sengulam with Miyawaki Island, free from water weeds and debris.

This year, we have identified and canalized the ditch water flowing into the tank. We have taken measures to separate it. We have stored it isolated from the rainwater inside the pond. After making treatment, the treated sewage water is allowed to mixup with the rainwater thus stored in the tank. Excess of rainwater flow would be from Sengulam Kanmai to Periyakulam Kanmai and therefrom Periyakulam Kanmai to Chinnakulam Kanmai. We have planned to add a Sewage Water Treatment Plant in Sengulam Kanmai in the years to come.

Chinna Kulam is a linear water body that cuts across the north western neighborhood of Sivakasi. We have done the bund formation work on the eastern side of the pond during Winter 2022. In the summer 2023, we have formed and strengthened the bund on the southern side of the pond. We have plans to remove water hyacinth and other water weeds inside the pond and in the inlet streams of the pond.

Rainwater Harvesting should be done at all levels, in Micro and Nano segments also.

Each 100 sq. ft household produces a huge amount of rainwater around the year. With the intention to save rainwater, we are connecting terraces of each households with PVC pipes and let the water into the nearest well for groundwater charging. We have identified 31 public wells which needs to be re-conditioned. In the year 2022, we have worked on 5 public wells. It needs Rs. 50,000/- to Rs. 5,00,000/- for each well to re-condition it. We spend on components like de-silting, MS covering, civil work, rainwater harvesting pipes etc
